Why
The Car Clinic is lead by Tim and Michelle Hiller.
As the Hillers’ prepared to marry, a seed was planted in Tim’s heart to begin a ministry at The Creek Community Church similar to one he had participated in at his last church. In short, a place where people in need could receive free oil changes or minor car repairs for free or sometimes for the cost of parts alone.
Michelle, having been raised by a single mom, and having been involved in a ministry serving single parents and their children, was delighted. She had felt the call 2 years before to “look after orphans and widows in their distress” (James 1:27) and saw this as a great opportunity to do so—knowing that many of us are “orphans” and “widows” of some kind, even sometimes of our own choosing.
Soon after their honeymoon, TheCar Clinic was born–in Rockford, MN during March of 2005. They started out with just a few volunteers and a crowded 2 car garage. During that first year, the Car Clinic was able to help several people from all walks of life and the Hillers were blessed with new and lasting friendships.
Today, The Car Clinic operates in Elk River, MN and is a ministry of New Life Community — a church ‘born’ in 2010 as the result of two churches (The Creek Community & Life Church) combining into one. With several volunteers from the church — and some from elsewhere chipping in both in the garage and in the house. In the first few years, we would typically see 1-4 cars a clinic. In the latter half of 2010, we have consistently seen 8-10 cars per clinic…and are starting to anticipate up to 12 each time.
